Workshop: Alternatives to Police

31 Jan

Many people have ethical, political or practical objections to calling the police to deal with interpersonal conflict. But if you’re under threat, or scared for someone else, or just bloody sick of your neighbour’s drumming at all hours, what the hell do you do instead? Calling the police often seems like the only option. We believe that’s not the case. We believe that better options exist, that we don’t have to choose between calling the cops and inaction.

This facilitated discussion aims to expand our repertoire of responses to conflict. We’ll talk through different hypothetical scenarios, using role-play and sharing our experiences to construct personal plans of response to conflict. We don’t have all the answers, but we have some pretty good questions.

Based off this exercise from the Imagine Alternatives project.
